Stingy - reluctant to give or spend; not generous; niggardly; penurious: He's a stingy old miser.
Thrifty - practicing thrift or economical management; frugal: a thrifty shopper.

For me, being thrifty is spending within your means on the "need" items and not on the "want" items Example is "need" items are like rice, water and "want" items are like Xbox 360, PS3 etc... In items like rice and water, theres also the "need" and "want" like for rice, Housebrand will do fine as compared to Royal Umbrella and Ice mountaine will do fine as compared to evian.

Stingy wise would be using other people stuff without any intention of buying or repayment while not willing to share your items with others. One example is someone always borrowing other people stationery and when other people forgets to bring, that someone refuses to lend.

thrifty ppl not necessary stingy.
they save as much money as possible and only spend on the necessities, after comparing prices and making sure it's the best deal.
they are careful with money, but still willing to spend on things like treating ppl makan, pampering ownself with a trip to bali tt sorta thing.
they can afford it bcos they planned and have stringent control over their own money.

stingy ppl are more geh gao, and wun spend one anything else except for own things or when really really need to spend... and they will choose the cheapest. or even if it's oredi cheap but still wanna bargain.
they probably expect ppl to blanjah then all the time, or will sit and eat 6 hours straight in a buffet session.

there's one guy at my workplace...he's very stingy...ask him to treat us to a drink which cost $0.80 a can also cannot...
but he's a very no-life guy. Weekends stay at home to play games and watch tv...monday to friday is working...
I have a friend who wanna throw a wedding banquet at a restaurant and he wanna invite this stingy guy. The stingy guy said he would only give $20 if the groom invite him...haha

But does over-thrifty accidentally cross into the stingy boundary sometimes?
As in being over-thrifty would give people the impression that you are stingy?

some ppl maybe relli need to save money leh..... got personal reasons
so can't blame them for being 斤斤计较

but i do know many rich ppl who are stingy.... REALLY STINGY!
maybe tts how they became rich? heehhehehee...

HAHAHA but nowadays you see alot of local men marrying foreign brides... it is due to higher standards from the local ladies or the standards of men really drop or the men nowadays want to do things the easy way out? Marrying a foreign bride isnt it the same as buying one over? ... can love be calculated by the value of money?

let me tell u the story of my uncle and his viet bride
(not buy one, is got to know here then get married one)

after get married liao the viet girl say wanna go back hometown visit parents blah blah blah
so bought her a ticket for her to go back be filial daughter
then she went back liao no want come back to SG
unless my family give her S$5,000
we refuse and so she no come back

now going to null the marriage
details i not sure lah, but this is the summary.

heard same stories for china brides.
all is want $$ one.

Well...$$ not = love...very simple... not to generalise all the foreign brides but most and i say most of them are here to get married or marry with ulterior motives be it getting Singapore PR or $$. Sad to say, but this tends to be the trend nowadays. However there are also happy marriages too with cases being reported in newspapers which one mentioning the vietnamese bride married a singaporean comparing that singaporean men are more caring and attentive as compared to their vietnamese counterparts whom she mention is rough and abusive after marriage.

the sad thing tt we singaporeans are not getting married and having enough children
tts why the govt have to do mass import
as well as relax the rules for marrying foreigners (were the rules ever strict before? this i not sure)

and tts precisely why the mrt and malls are like so overcrowded these days but anywhere u turn ur head, u see or hear so many non-singaporeans

don't need to say about mrt or bus...just in my neighbourhood, there's plenty of china migrants.....

In my area during weekends, there a flood of indians everywhere...they are buying up washing powder like ma chiam its free from NTUC...until i can't get my favourite washing powder brand... Waaaahhhh so sad... good news for NTUC and bad news for me.
