Today's TODAY newspapers front page very funny....I think the editors purposely one haha.
You would notice that (on the top centre) our dear neighbours M'sia are in full force fiercely rallying against price hikes on fuels, food etc, whereas (bottom centre) our cute drivers in SG, are quiet over everything. 36/50 drivers will still continue to drive despite the ERP increases which start today, the closest someone got to being unhappy was a man who took pictures of the roads near CHNtown to show that it ain't congested wat....
On CNA the other day, during dinner, my family almost burst out laughing & choked when they interviewed this elderly lady who had a frowny sulky face when interviewed how she feels about all these price increases "What can I do? Pay lor, right? Cannot do anything one.."
We are a bunch of happy bunnies...
Think Singaporeans are more pragmatic...or some say (towards a negative angle)...more resigned...
Got a lot to do with our education system whereby we are taught to follow a set of protocols and toe the line.
Compared to the west, they are a lot more liberal than us. But then again, being conversative and systematic has it's benefits too. There is more order. Albeit at the expense of flexibility and freedom.
Ah well...such is life here.

i think we have been "conditioned" to just keep quiet and accept
though every time they announce something we will kpkb for some time but then later will just die down and everyone jus diam diam liao....
we have seen wat happened to those who opposed...
and being so busy and having the "aiyah, i cant be bothered. let the others do it" kind of mentality, even if we are not happy, we oso no voice out....
look at korea..... bcos of the beef, so many ppl dun go sch dun go work, go sit on the streets
in france, to express their unhappiness about the oil price, they purposesly drive slowly on the road or block roads
ppl dare to do and their ppl are united to do such things
but what about us?
if we do then wat will happen to us leh?

Yeah lor!!!! Why dun Singaporeans do such things ah! We (me included) love to complain, but all very small-scale. We call the card companies to complain, get more perks, complain about bad services to the restaurant mgrs & get a free meal, but why can't it be applied to new policies ha~
The last real riot I rem is the racial one which happened in the 50s over some Dutch girl, Maria Hertogh or something?

U want to try doing that, then the government might invite you down to settle some issues like you suddenly got unpaid fines lah... your income tax got problem lah... etc etc the list goes on...Do take note Singapore is a small country, the ISA people act on you very fast one.... Be careful...

Singapore is a "fine" city!!
People here are more apathetic. To be fair, our government has been quite strong. So not much unhappiness to talk of, as compared to other countries where you see more protests.
Just the other day, I was sitting in a cab. And the driver was complaining about high oil price, taxi rent, long hours and so on...
But what can he do? Protest? Don't work? He told me with a sigh that he still has to soldier on, because he needs to put food on the table for his wife and young kids.
Sometimes, there are more important things in life when you put things in perspective.
