Dear Qotion Member,
Thank you for your responses to the Weekly Top Rates feature - we will continue to scour for products and keep you updated.
Online privacy and security is a top concern in Singapore. From recent cyber attacks on popular Twitter, Facebook and LiveJournal websites, to the listing of personal data on public search sites, users have cause for concern. It may even take your stolen/lost cards to compromise your personal finance security.
Identity theft and credit fraud is increasingly becoming a very real threat in an age where everything goes digital - not that we are not thankful for it - and we urge our members to get protected. We have compiled some useful tips on how to conduct safe online banking transactions - do read more here.
Other easy & cost-effective online financial security measures include:
- Keep your computer secure and the access to it. Ensure you have virus protection software which is updated regularly. If you drive around with your laptop, do not leave it in the car - always carry it wherever you go. Change your IDs and passwords regularly.
- Check your bank accounts transactions regularly. Report discrepancies to your Bank immediately. Never respond to emails which ask you for Bank account information. If you use an online banking facility, always log out completely when finished - especially if you use public terminals often.
- Never store your credit information on online sites. If you do transact, use a separate credit card with a lower credit limit and only make payments to secure websites - these have a padlock symbol at the bottom of the page & the URL-prefix is usually "https://" When using a site for the first time, always start with a small transaction value first.
I trust this helps. Qotion.com members who are currently financial planners, do drop us an email to find out how you can contribute on our site.
Yours Sincerely,
Michael Zhan
