Due to our busy lifestyle, most of us cannot afford to make this time and commitment. This is where financial planners come in. At its best, the relationship between financial planners and consumers is one of mutual benefit - They provide qualified advice and product recommendations to fit your needs, while you confirm the goals you wish to achieve and the financial capital available to achieve them. Sometimes, however, we are persuaded to meet with financial planners with no specific goals to address in mind, and end up with products which we pay a premium for and yet are not suited to our personal needs. In such cases, the financial planner may either be unable to properly discern your needs based on your financial situation, or may be just falling back to pushing the highest commission products. Either way, you lose.
From such incidents, we can see the value of working with the right professionals. Given that most people purchase more than just a single policy in our lifetimes, it can be very worthwhile to do some additional research on what you personally value most in a financial planner, and then proactively search for them. This way, you can maximize the chances of a long and fruitful relationship for both parties.
What about you? What matters most to you when looking for a financial planner?
Have a good weekend!
Yours Sincerely,
Tony Koh
